Pros and Cons of Penny Auctions

By Sid Kal

Penny auctions are fast gaining in popularity especially after the recession when people are looking at new and novel ways to save money. It is true that penny auctions can really help shoppers save a lot of money from their bill, but you should know the exact penny auction strategies if you really want to succeed. Without these, there is a chance you will actually end up losing money instead of getting a bargain.

The way usual penny auctions work is this: you either buy the item at its full retail price, or you can end up getting a bargain of a lifetime. Well, at least this is how they are supposed to work but sometimes people bid on these auctions without knowing this is how it works.

So when you do go online to shop on these auctions, you should only bid on items that you are sure you want to purchase at full retail. In the process, if you are lucky and use the right strategies, you can end up on the winning side with an excellent bargain.

The way entertainment auctions work is that the bidding process isn't free, i.e. for every bid that you place, you need to pay a fixed amount of money. However, if your bid isn't the winning one, you don't lose the money - you can use it for Buy Now option that is available at large penny auctions like Quibids. This way when the auction is over, if you are the winner, you will most likely get up to 80-90% off retail. However, if you are not the winner, then you can purchase the item at its full retail.

Gift cards are particularly good in this scenario because you are not obliged to buy a single item. So if you win an Amazon gift card, you can use it to get a discount on your next purchase from Amazon, whatever you buy.

The only cons of this process is when people don't really know what they are doing, i.e. they bid on auctions they don't intend to pay full retail just for a chance to win it. This is a very unlikely though possible scenario, and they end up paying for the bids. What you need is a very good penny auction strategy which you can stick to and bid accordingly. There are many penny auction blogs which lay out the strategies that you can use. The point is, if you do your homework beforehand, you can get really good bargains without any downside.

Thanks a lot for dropping by! Yea, penny auctions are interesting and you sure can get some good deals if you know how to use them. Unfortunately people look at these like gambling, which they are not.
